PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
